Transport company Kirchweihtal tests e-troFit bus

The Kirchweihtal transport company in the Allgäu region started a one-week test operation with an e-troFit test bus on March 23, 2021. The series-production vehicle is to be intensively tested on various routes during the test phase, including at peak times and in school bus services.

"Retrofitting is the key to rapid entry into electromobility. We are looking forward to the testing," explains Michael Bechteler, Managing Director of Verkehrsgesellschaft Kirchweihtal GmbH.

When the test vehicle was handed over, a first experience drive through the city of Kaufbeuren already took place after the instruction by the e-troFit service team. On board were Michael Bechteler, Stefan Bosse, Mayor of Kaufbeuren, the management of Regionalbus Augsburg GmbH and the local press. The passengers were very enthusiastic.

Pilot project with Landshut municipal utility: 10,000 km mark reached

Our first e-troFit series model has now been in regular service on Landshut's streets for six months. Since the start of the pilot project in September, the bus has now mastered 10,000 kilometers. Robert Schie, Head of Transport at Stadtwerke Landshut: "The vehicle has been absolutely reliable in daily use - even in the winter months there have been no problems. Our expectations in terms of performance have been exceeded. The range is absolutely sufficient for shift operations in Landshut."

e-troFit brings top quality to the road

The primary goal of e-troFit is to produce safe, robust and reliable zero-emission vehicles. From the very beginning, we have been committed to the highest standards of safety and quality in retrofitting kits for the electrification of buses in public transport and trucks in the heavy-duty sector.

As a retrofitting pioneer, we therefore also expressly welcome the initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI): As part of the implementation of the overall concept for climate-friendly commercial vehicles, the BMVI has set up a task force to deal with minimum standards for the conversion of conventionally powered commercial vehicles to alternative, climate-friendly drives. e-troFit actively participated in this task force and represented its position for high quality standards and thus more operational safety in the converted commercial vehicle sector.

Andreas Hager, Managing Director of e-troFit, comments: "Against the background of the new federal funding guidelines expected for the second quarter of 2021 and the associated equal treatment of the procurement of converted vehicles and new vehicles, it is immensely important, especially in this early phase, to focus on the quality aspect of the solutions offered. We as e-troFit count ourselves among the supporting pillars of the still young conversion industry and want to shape and successfully shape its promising future from the very beginning."

Pre-orders exceed expectations - production on growth track

After series production started at the end of last year at e-troFit, production capacities for 2021 are already nearly fully utilized. With a capacity utilization of around 70 percent, only 10 vehicles can still be ordered for the 2nd half of the year. In the context of the new BMVI funding guidelines expected from the end of Q2 2021, immediate pre-orders make sense.

The further expansion of production capacities for 2022 envisages being able to offer the C1 Facelift and C2 models, which are being developed in parallel, in series production in quantities of >300 by Q2 2022. The e-troFit partner concept for high-quality conversions envisages the prompt certification of further conversion partners in Germany and Europe.

e-troFit at the VDV Electric Bus Conference 2021

A comment by Robert Reisenauer, Head of Sales e-troFit GmbH:
In mid-March, we attended the first digital edition of the VDV Electric Bus Conference 2021, which we think was a very successful event. The event gave a very good market insight: From the political and social framework conditions that make a transformation of public transport necessary up to the implementation of the required emission-free mobility concepts by transport companies.

In his guest lecture, Cem Özdemir, Member of the German Bundestag and Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure, made clear how important zero-emission public transport is for achieving climate targets and that it also requires courage from all those involved. I, too, am convinced that with openness and transparency, but also the aforementioned courage, we will successfully achieve the mobility turnaround in local public transportation. It is precisely this openness and transparency that I have experienced in dialog with many transport companies - with regard to their positioning for the future, but also in the context of concepts and measures that have already been implemented. I was very pleased about that.

With our solutions for the electrification of existing vehicles and our expertise in preparing for a successful transformation of depots to electric mobility, we are a trendsetter and now an important part of the industry. Together with all market players, we can succeed in achieving the goals of the Clean Vehicles Directive and individual policy requirements for zero-emission mobility by also giving other new mobility concepts a chance. Dr. Tamara Zieschang, State Secretary in the BMVI, has already built the engine for the implementation of the transformation with the announced funding program for zero-emission vehicles, it is now up to us to use it effectively after publication in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

Although the first VDV digital electric bus conference was a success, we hope that the industry event can soon be held again as a face-to-face event, because it is personal relationships that lay the best foundation for achieving common goals.
